John and MargaretJohn and Margaret Hallowell are the husband and wife team behind Wild Wolf Experience. Through organising independent wolf watching and wildlife tours in Spain they are able to share their vast knowledge of the mammals and birds of the country.

John is an experienced and well-travelled naturalist with a particular passion for  wolves; he has been actively involved in wildlife and conservation from an early age. He has studied and photographed wildlife in India, Africa, North America, the Middle East and most of Europe. His photographs have featured in many articles, including The Washington Post.

John HallowellAlong with Margaret, John is a member of the UKWCT (UK Wolf Conservation Trust). An enthusiastic photographer, John enjoys sharing his observational skills, and has been able to give people excellent views of  wolf, lynx, Cantabrian brown bear, wild boar, red and roe deer, Iberian hare, European otter, beech marten and pine marten to name but a few as well as a multitude of birds, reptiles and amphibians.

Why Choose Our Tours?

Life-long naturalists, we run responsible, inspiring wildlife tours throughout the year from our home base in the Sierra de la Culebra in Northern Spain. We are registered with the Junta de Castille y Leon Department of Culture and Tourism (Reg no: CICL.49-039) and have all the necessary permits for conducting tours within the National Reserve. We belong to “Interior Legendario” which is a local collective of businesses involved in eco-tourism in the Sierra de la Culebra and believe that responsible eco-tourism is one solution to forward conservation of Spain’s apex predators.

We pride ourselves on providing individually tailored tours. With all the tours, the price quoted includes free airport pick-up/drop off at times convenient for yourself if required, all land travel in fully air-conditioned vehicles, en-suite accommodation in a friendly, family-run hotel, breakfast, light lunch and evening meal with drinks, morning and evening watches at the most promising locations, days tracking and searching the area for signs of our target species, visits to places of local interest, plus the individual services of John as your guide throughout.

Wild Wolf Experience tours do not operate with large groups of people owing to the secretive nature of our target species and so each tour is individual to our clients. Your tour would be for yourselves exclusively. Unlike a lot of wildlife tours, our tours only take small numbers to further enhance opportunities to experience elusive wildlife. All our tours are conducted in a manner sympathetic to the welfare of the wildlife and its habitat.
